The role of the entrepreneur and the role of the investor are fundamentally different in regards to their function in the economy. An investor is only interested in the return on his investment. He or she has a point of view determined by financial aspects. The entrepreneur, on the other hand, is mainly interested in the institution and ensuring the long term viability of the institution. Equating the function of the investor with that of the entrepreneur is one of the great weaknesses of the shareholder value approach.
