Structure refers to the (functional) organisation of an institution, i.e.: the institution has an organisation, the institutions is structured in a specific way. The structure of an institution breaks it down into result producing units (RPU) and performance producing units – thereby allowing for a level of functional security under all conditions that have a realistic chance of occurring. This structure is the result of the formation activities of management. The conceptual framework is provided by the Viable Systems Model (VSM).
