Nothing maintains its validity forever and new things are overtaken by even newer things all the time! The process of systematic abandonment is therefore one of the tools of effective management. Performance is not possible without continuous purification and „garbage disposal“. Every institution therefore needs to ensure it has a process in place to identify and remove all those things which are obsolete and unnecessary – a process of “systematic abandonment”. This process needs to have at its heart the question: “Of all the things we are doing today what would we not start if we weren’t already doing it?”
