Strategic business units (SBU) of a company are specific product and market combinations. They divide the overall market into smaller market or customer segments (which should be as homogenous as possible) – thereby creating the basis for an effective way of „addressing the market“. Strategic business units are developed during segmentation in the process of strategy development. The correct determination of strategic business units is one of the most important decisions in the strategy development process.
